Suggestion #01:  make a Space program on which people can dream about

The international and undisputed prestige of NASA among people and scientists (which has often helped NASA to let people forgive several mistakes made in its history) comes almost entirely from the extraordinary (robotic and manned) missions, performed in its 50 years history, that made, students, space enthusiasts, astronomers and scientists (but also peoples all over the world) excited seeing pictures of solar system planets coming from all space probes, many images of the universe taken by Hubble, the rovers sent on Mars, the Shuttle and, especially, the greatest adventure ever accomplished (so far) by the mankind, which was landing on the Moon!

Unfortunately, the public interest about NASA and Space has vanished almost entirely in the latest decades (especially among common people) because of several factors, such as the "routine" look of all Space Shuttle missions, the mainly "technical" interest about the the ISS assembly, the excellent, but few, small and limited space probes and rovers sent on Mars and towards planets, the very poor and depressing (especially if compared with what predicted by sci-fi movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey) with just ONE space station and only THREE (now, finally, SIX...) astronauts aboard (out of almost 7 billion persons on Earth...) that live and work (?) in Space, no one big goal in Space, no human exploration of the solar system and not even any credible program to land on Mars!

As explained THREE YEARS AGO in my VISUAL Shuttle to Capsule comparison article the original (very optimistic if compared with today's reality...) ESAS plan already seemed me an INCREDIBLY SLOW AND POOR SPACE PROGRAM if compared with the great results (in terms of number of missions and astronauts, hundreds tons of payload carried in orbit, its unmatched assembly in Space, scientific results, operational capabilities, etc.) of the Space Shuttle fleet, while, now, after many technical issues, 5+ years of delays over the original timeline, giant cost overruns, daily increasing manned flights gap, big lack of funds, etc. the ESAS plan already looks an HUGE FAILURE with a 2017 or LATER first manned Ares-1/Orion mission to the ISS (assuming it WILL fly... since I believe that the Ares-1 can't fly) and, as consequence, the first/next manned lunar landing slipped (at least) to 2022-2025 or LATER.

So, my 1st suggestion for HSFPC and NASA is: make a space program on which people can dream about changing now this very slow and expensive space programs with something faster, more rich of missions and more exciting project than "Ares-1", that (e.g.) in the next 5+ years will do only a couple of boring (and surely not "cool" from the point of view of common people and of the american taxpayers) things like (e.g.) an "SRB with a fifth segment" and a "rocket engine" similar to hundreds others and seen thousands times... very very sad!
