Suggestion #06:  don't dismantle or modify or upgrade the Shuttle's launch pads

Everybody knows that one of the reasons of the repeated delays of the Ares 1-X test launch (that, I believe, will be further delayed to the end of 2009 or early 2010) is the unavailability of a Shuttle launch pad (since, both are still necessary for the last ten Shuttle missions) to be modified to launch the Ares 1-X and (in 2014) the Ares 1-Y.

I believe that, the Ares 1-X test launch, is completely useless, since built only around a standard 4-segments SRB, with a dumb 5th segment, a dumb upperstage and a dumb Orion, so, it can't give any good info or data about the REAL Ares-1 (with the new 5-segments SRB and a working 2nd stage with J-2X) that will be tested only in 2014 (or later) with the Ares 1-Y launch... in other words, the Ares 1-X is just a little more than an "ESAS Show"... a launch "invented" only to (finally) show (to politics and press) "something flying" of what outlined four years ago in the ESAS plan...

Despite, the Ares 1-X test launch, is completely useless, it requires a significant and irreversible change of one of the Shuttle launch pads (while the other will be modified to launch the Ares-5) with severe and irreparable consequences on future choices of NASA especially if, in 2014 (when the Ares 1-Y will be launched) or (worse) in 2017 (or later) when the first manned Ares-1/Orion "should" fly, NASA will discover, that the Ares-1 can't fly, so, the ESAS plan, must therefore restart from scratch, with new rockets and further changes to the two launch pads!

So, my 6th suggestion is: don't dismantle or modify or upgrade the Shuttle's launch pads and launch the Ares 1-X (if absolutely necessary) from another (Ares-dedicated) launch pad (no matter if it will need a further delay of this useless test) to allow NASA and the President (that should decide the NASA's future from the results of the HSFPC) to have ALL the possible options and scenarios still open for the quick and best choices that could be:  the Space Shuttles (2-5 years) retirement slippage and/or the adoption of some new rocket concepts like my (true Shuttle-derived) FAST-SLV "rocket-kit" (or the FAST-SLV-like but FOUR months LATER copy called "Direct"...) and/or the Shuttle-C and/or the current Ares rockets and/or any other kind of rocket that fits them.
